Klimbos Dordrecht: the climbing forest in the Biesbosch

23 September 2025

In the unique Biesbosch nature reserve, you will find Klimbos Dordrecht. Climb the trees over rope bridges, glide through ziplines and clamber over a rope net. And the best part? Tokkel over the beaver pond and who knows, you might even spot a beaver!

The climbing forest

At Klimbos Dordrecht, you will find 7 climbing routes that will take you up to 12 metres high! For everyone from 6 years of age and with a minimum height of 1.20 metres, there are the 3 orange routes. Here you climb through barrels, balance on cables and clamber along nets. A great adventure for young and old.

Are you taller than 1.40 metres? Then you can choose from 4 additional routes, structured like ski runs: from blue (easy) to red (challenging). The higher the colour intensity, the more challenging the route and the more spectacular the views. For the speed demons among us, there is a zip line route (route brown). Glide through the forest with the wind in your hair!

Day out

Want to make a whole day out of it? Then combine the climbing forest with these fun outings at the climbing forest:

  • Biesboschcentrum
This place is the perfect location to start a visit to the Biesbosch. In the visitor centre you will find an information desk where you can ask all your questions, a Green Shop for small souvenirs and an interactive exhibition.
  • Beaver scavenger hunt
For little ones from 4 years upwards, there is a cool scavenger hunt available at the cash desk of Klimbos Dordrecht. Hunt for beaver tracks, see the recreated beaver lodge and learn all about Europe's largest rodent. The scavenger hunt takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  • On the water
From April to October, there is also the opportunity to explore the Biesbosch from the water explore. Do you hire a sup, canoe or whisper boat? Everything is possible!
  • Brasserie Biez
At Brasserie Biezz you can enjoy a simple but tasty self-service concept all week long. Walk through the shop, grab what you want and after checkout, you can find a lovely spot in the brasserie or on the spacious terrace overlooking the beautiful surroundings!
  • Stayokay Dordrecht
Want to explore the Biesbosch even longer? Then a kilometre away there is StayOkay Dordrecht. Water and nature, sports and city. It's all here! With the Biesbosch as your backyard and the city within cycling distance, you can expect a wonderfully varied holiday.

When is the climbing forest open?

Our current opening hours can be found at www.klimbos.nl/openingstijden

Do you need to book in advance?

It is not compulsory, but we definitely recommend it! By making a reservation, you are guaranteed a climbing spot. As we work with a limited number of starting spots per instruction, if you do not make a reservation, you may have to wait until the next round of instruction.

How long does a climbing roe last?

A visit to the climbing forest lasts 3 hours. You start with a safety instruction of about 30 minutes and then you can climb independently for another 2.5 hours.

How safe is the climbing forest?

Super safe! We work with a continuous safety system. This means that you secure yourself at the start of a climbing route and can only release yourself at the end. In addition, your climbing outing starts with a compulsory safety instruction, where we teach you everything you need to know about climbing.

Should you wear sportswear?

No, you can just come and climb in your "normal" clothes. Just make sure you can move around comfortably in your outfit and that you wear closed shoes.

Choose a location

Each of the locations is unique, but one thing they have in common is the beautiful surroundings.

All our climbing forests are located in real forests, where we do not use climbing poles. This gives you the best climbing experience! We build and maintain the routes ourselves and they are inspected externally for safety. Our staff is trained to give safety instructions and to give you the best experience. A day you will never forget!
