Can you climb if you are pregnant? The short answer: it is technically possible, but it is not recommended. Climbing while pregnant is done at your own risk.

Why climbing during pregnancy is not recommended

There are several reasons why climbing during pregnancy is not recommended.

1. Climbing harness and pressure on body

  • Climbing belt sits around waist and legs
  • Normal load is already felt
  • Extra pressure on your belly during movement
  • Pelvis and abdomen are especially vulnerable during pregnancy

2. What happens in case of a slip

  • The Climbing Belt catches you off guard
  • You get a shock to your body, especially around the waist and pelvis
  • Extra power comes to your body
  • Impact on pregnancy is uncertain

3. Physical strain in general

Climbing asks of your body:

  • Strength and effort
  • Balance sheet
  • Endurance
  • Stress hormones may increase during anxiety or exertion

Rebooking during pregnancy

Can you climb if you are pregnant? Technically it is possible, but it is strongly advised against from hot safety point of view. The climbing harness, shock when catching and physical strain can pose risks to mother and baby. Although there is no official ban, climbing during pregnancy is done at your own risk and is not medically recommended. The advice: postpone climbing until after pregnancy and your recovery period. You can rebook your booking to a later time up to 24 hours in advance free of charge. Safety comes first and climbing is so much more fun when you can enjoy it carefree!
