How does an outing to the climbing forest work? All you need to know

24 September 2025

Are you looking for an active and adventurous day out in nature? Then a visit to a climbing forest is a perfect choice. Whether you come with friends, family or colleagues, an outing to the climbing forest guarantees challenge, fun and a healthy dose of adrenaline. But how exactly does such a climbing outing work? In this article, we explain step by step what to expect.

The duration of a climbing forest outing

A standard climbing outing lasts 3 hours. The programme always starts with a compulsory 30-minute safety instruction. After that, you have 2.5 hours to climb independently.

Each climbing forest has several routes with different levels of difficulty. Climbing one route takes 20 to 40 minutes on average. So in your climbing time, you can try out several routes and face new challenges all the time.

Who is the climbing forest suitable for?

The climbing forest is fun and challenging for young and old:

  • You can participate as early as 6 years old.
  • The minimum height is 1.20 metres: this allows you to climb all orange (junior) routes.
  • If you are taller than 1.40 metres, you may also climb the regular routes.

Both children and adults enjoy the different routes, making the climbing forest an activity for the whole family. As an adult, it is also possible to book a junior ticket, you will then only have access to the orange routes.

What to wear in the climbing forest?

Good preparation will make your outing a lot more comfortable and safe. Keep in mind the following clothing and footwear tips:

  • Comfortable clothes in which you can move freely.
  • Closed shoes.
  • Wear your hair in a low bun or ponytail so that your hair cannot get stuck while climbing and strumming.

Want to record your climbing adventure? You can! You may bring your phone, provided it is securely fastened. Special phone lanyards are available at the box office that allow you to take your device safely up into the heights.

Preparing to start your climbing adventure

We ask you to be present 15 minutes before the start of the instruction. This will give you enough time to:

  • Store your belongings in the free lockers,
  • Going to the toilet for a little while longer,
  • Look at the route signs and choose in advance which routes you want to climb.

Then the harness instruction begins. A staff member will help you put on the climbing harness and explain all about the use of the hooks. You will then be explained the towing position and the rules around ladders, platforms and the number of participants per element.

After this explanation, you will first practise on the demo track. If this goes well, you will be allowed to enter the routes independently.

The end of your climbing spawn

Afterwards, return your climbing belt and get your belongings from the locker. Don't forget to return your key at the ticket office. Tired but satisfied, you can look back on a successful and adventurous outing!

Why choose a climbing forest outing?

A day of climbing is not only exciting and fun, but also:

  • Good for your fitness: you are active outdoors.
  • Accessible for all ages: from junior routes to challenging courses for adults.
  • Perfect for groups: think children's parties, company outings or family days.

In short: an outing to the climbing forest is a unique experience you won't soon forget.
