10 years ago, Kanjers voor Kanjers, Klimbos Nederland and De Heikamp joined forces to create an unforgettable day out for children and young people for whom sport and play are not self-evident. An intensive collaboration developed to look in particular at what is possible and with what adaptations everyone can safely climb the tree. Now, 10 years later, Klimbos Achterhoek welcomes several schools (and institutions) every year to enter the climbing forest full of enthusiasm. Concluding with a delicious pancake and lemonade at De Heikamp.
The reactions and experiences of the children, supervisors and parents are unanimously overwhelming. The impact of climbing and pushing their own limits is indescribable: cooperation develops between children who would otherwise never do anything together. Children who really don't want to climb and then finally complete the demo route full of pride. But also a mother whose son comes home with tears in his eyes and says: "Yes we are going to the climbing forest!
A look on the face once they have completed the route says more than words. This also has a long-term impact: self-confidence increases and your self-esteem grows. You have pushed your limits and can do more than you think!
Where for one boy, his bread was always buttered, after his climbing adventure, he took up climbing himself and has been buttering his own sandwich every day since. Where a large group of blind and visually impaired children experienced absolutely no fear of going up into the heights and completed the entire course with a single instruction.
To reinforce this cooperation, you can donate Charitable Heitjes to Kanjers voor Kanjers at De Heikamp. For every Heitje, €1 goes to the foundation. This year, that resulted in a cheque for €350. This year, donations will again be plentiful, so if you come to De Heikamp or have any stray Heitjes in the house, put them in the cupboard at the entrance to the Heitjes Hut!
