Why the climbing forest is the perfect place for Scout groups

18 September 2025

A day of climbing in the climbing forest recently provided a scout group with a special experience. Among the treetops, the scouts learned not only about balance and perseverance, but above all about cooperation and trusting each other. Their story is an inspiring example of how a youth association or scout group can make the most of a climbing forest for adventure, teambuilding and, above all, lots of fun!

Why scouting and a climbing forest are a perfect match
A climbing forest is more than just a sporting activity. For scout groups and youth organisations, it offers:

  • Challenge and adventure
Routes at different altitudes allow each participant to push their limits.
  • Collaboration and leadership
Scouts need to help and motivate each other, exactly what makes scouting important.
  • Safe learning outside the comfort zone
Thanks to the continuous securing system and experienced instructors, youngsters can safely combine excitement and guts.

Best practice: how this group tackled it
The scout group that visited Klimbos Netherlands prepared smartly. Their approach is a good example for other associations:

  1. Clear agreements in advance: leadership discussed with the scouts the importance of safety and cooperation.
  2. Mix of ages: having older and younger members climbing together created natural leadership.
  3. Co-climbing companions: although it is not necessary, the experience is even cooler when the companions also climb along. In doing so, the group created a real group activity.

Experiences from the treetops
"It was exciting at first, but I felt stronger because my friends encouraged me," says a 13-year-old Scout. Another participant remarked: "You learn that you can do more than you think, especially when you work together."
According to the leadership, this is exactly why a climbing forest is valuable for scouting: it combines physical challenge with social growth.

Klimbos Netherlands as a destination for scouting groups
Klimbos Nederland offers challenging climbing courses in the middle of nature. It is a popular destination for schools, scouting groups and associations looking for an active group outing. Thanks to the different levels, there is a suitable route and challenge for every member, young or old.

What makes the Klimbos fun for scout groups?

It is the ultimate combination of challenge and adventure. It also requires cooperation and leadership and takes place in nature!

How old do you need to be for the Klimbos?

From 6 years of age and with a minimum height of 1.20m, you can already come and climb the junior routes independently. If you are taller than 1.40m, the regular routes are also accessible. Guidance in the routes is not necessary, but of course it is fun!
