A company outing that gets everyone excited: try finding one of those. One person wants to do something active, another thinks socialising is important and yet another definitely does not see themselves dangling at great heights. Still, our team decided to take on the challenge: a company outing at Klimbos Nederland.
And we didn't regret it. Because what started with a few slightly tense upward glances ended with enthusiastic stories about routes, zip wires and colleagues who had completely surprised themselves.
Upon arrival, we immediately noticed how wonderful it is to seek out a truly different environment for once for a company outing. No meeting room, screens or desks, but trees, fresh air and colleagues in climbing harnesses.
Upon arrival, it was time for the safety briefing. We received an explanation about climbing and the safety system and were able to practise this ourselves first. After that, we were allowed to go out onto the routes independently.
And then came, of course, the most important question: who dares to go first?
That immediately turned out to be a major advantage of a company outing to the adventure park. We didn't all have to follow the same course. Everyone could choose a climbing route that suited their level.
The keen ones in our team quickly sought out the more difficult routes, while others first wanted to calmly discover what it felt like to climb at height.
As a result, it didn't feel like a competition. You decide for yourself how big your challenge will be.
And to be fair: some colleagues surprised us quite a bit.
The one who shouted the loudest beforehand “You won't get me up that high” was a little later amongst the treetops after all. With the necessary encouragement from the ground, naturally.
Perhaps the most enjoyable part of the climb for us was what happened along the way.
You automatically encourage each other. You wait a moment for a colleague who finds an obstacle daunting. You share tips. And when someone finally takes that difficult step anyway, it is celebrated by the rest of the team.
Without any official teambuilding assignment being involved, you are therefore constantly engaged with each other.
Particularly colleagues who speak to each other less during a normal working day suddenly found themselves discussing a route together or encouraging each other from the ground.
That not only resulted in a lot of laughter, but also conversations you probably wouldn't have all that quickly in the office.
Ahead of time, a few colleagues wondered whether a Go Ape course would be suitable for them. After all, do you need to be very sporty? And what if you find heights scary?
In practice, that turned out not to be so bad.
Because there are different routes and difficulty levels, you can decide for yourself how much of a challenge you are looking for. You therefore do not have to choose the highest or most difficult route straight away.
And don't you want to or can't you climb at all? Then you can walk along from the ground and cheer on your colleagues.
That made it an enjoyable group outing for us: not everyone has to do the exact same thing to still share the experience together.
A climbing trip at Klimbos Nederland lasts a maximum of three hours, including the safety briefing. That seemed quite long beforehand, but once we got started, the hours flew by.
After a route, the discussion quickly arose:
“Which one shall we do next?”
And next:
“Right, just one more...”
Before we knew it, the climbing was over.
Tired? A little.
Proud? Absolutely.
And plenty of conversation topics for the upcoming Friday afternoon drinks? Absolutely.
After all that action, it is of course extra enjoyable to have a bite and a drink together. Depending on the chosen location and package, the company outing can be extended with catering, for example a drinks reception or BBQ.
For us, that was the perfect moment to chat a bit longer.
Who had taken the most exciting route? Who turned out to be unexpectedly competitive? And which colleague up in the trees had just a bit more fear of heights than they had admitted beforehand?
That exact combination of experiencing something together and then having a nice chat afterwards made the outing complete.
As far as we are concerned: absolutely.
A company outing at Klimbos Nederland is especially suitable for teams that not only want to do something together, but also genuinely experience something together.
You are outside, literally stepping out of your daily working environment, and everyone can choose their own challenge. Meanwhile, moments naturally arise where colleagues work together, help and encourage each other.
That makes it an active company outing and a form of team building, without it feeling forced.
A company outing at Klimbos Nederland consists of a maximum of three hours of climbing, including a safety briefing. Afterwards, participants independently choose climbing routes at various levels. Depending on the location and the chosen package, the outing can be combined with food and drinks.
Klimbos Nederland has locations in Apeldoorn, Assen, Bergen op Zoom, Dordrecht, Lage Vuursche and Ruurlo.
Would you like something different from the standard drinks, workshop or meeting venue for your next team day?
Go outside together, head for the heights and discover which colleagues are just that little bit more daring than you thought.
