Climbing: a guest's report

1 October 2021

An outing to the climbing forest, super fun! But what can you really expect?

One of our climbing guests will tell you all about it.

Simone: "Finally, we got to go climbing at Klimbos Netherlands. On arrival, we were kindly welcomed at the ticket office. Here we were explained what was involved, given a wristband and a locker key so we could safely store our belongings. We then had some time to go to the toilet and empty our pockets. At the agreed instruction time, an employee of the Klimbos came to collect us from the picnic benches where we had sat down for a while. We were able to walk along, got our climbing harness on and then we were explained how the climbing is done and what the do's and don'ts are. Besides keeping a close eye on the placement of the hook and your hands, it is also good for ladies to pay attention to long hair.... In a bun low on the head, that is!

After showing on the practice course that we had understood the explanations, we were allowed to get started ourselves. But where do you start? The advice is to start with an orange route to get used to it. But of course there are plenty of stubborn people who skip that and immediately pick the highest routes.

Up in good spirits and how cool! After a short familiarisation period, you become freer and freer and dare to trust the hook you are constantly (!) attached to, super safe! And when you are climbing, at some point you also forget how high you actually are. It's definitely worth stopping sometimes and consciously looking around, because the views are amazing! We even heard all the deer belling and eventually saw them between the trees on a grass field as well.

Each climbing route will take you around 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the obstacles along the way and how busy the course is. And if you don't know how to overcome an element, there is always a staff member around to coach you through it or give tips. After two hours of climbing, we were out of strength and quite tired. So the climbing time was more than enough! Tired but satisfied, we handed in our climbing belts and bought ourselves another drink. What a great afternoon! And we take that little bit of muscle pain for granted!"

Each of the locations is unique, but one thing they have in common is the beautiful surroundings.

All our climbing forests are located in real forests, where we do not use climbing poles. This gives you the best climbing experience! We build and maintain the routes ourselves and they are inspected externally for safety. Our staff is trained to give safety instructions and to give you the best experience. A day you will never forget!
